When it comes to making the world accessible, Brazil has always been at the forefront. As early adopters of parking for the handicapped, many Brazilian companies now reserve parking spaces for pregnant women and the elderly. Buses have seats especially dedicated for accessibility as codified by law. Riders are obligated to relinquish these seats to qualifying people.
Perhaps the most interesting accessibility aids are tactile flooring bump dots, which provide pathways for the blind and visually impaired. Tactile flooring is ubiquitous in Brazil, showing up in airports, museums (pictured), bus stations, and anywhere else that experiences high foot traffic.
Brazil continues to be a leader when it comes to caring for its compromised citizens, and this compassion is also increasingly evident in attitudes about the population at large, the environment, and visitors.
